Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department Dear Stoney Creek Resident, It is time for our annual mail-out fundraiser. Your donation is used exclusively for the Stoney Creek Fire Department and is necessary for the operation of the department. The Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department is an IRS 503c non-profit organization, so your donation is tax deductible. The Stoney Creek Fire Department is an all volunteer department. That means that no one in the department gets paid anything for their time and service. We do this because we enjoy helping the community by doing something that many do not want to do. We are committed to providing the best service possible and all we ask is for funding that will provide us with the proper equipment. We raise this money through this mail-out fundraiser, spring and fall roadblocks, and for the last several years, by selling fireworks. We do not solicit donations over the telephone or by going door to door. Please send your donation in the enclosed envelope. We also receive funding from Carter County in the amount of $45,000. This funding pays our truck payment and the department’s insurance. The remainder of our operating costs is paid through our fund-raising. Other operating costs include: fuel, vehicle and equipment maintenance, utilities and upkeep of the two-fire stations, fire equipment, and fire prevention supplies. Our department is comprised of 31 active member-firefighters. So far this year we have spent a total of 862 hours responding to 124 incidents, attended 1135 hours of training, spent 1273 hours selling fireworks during the 4th of July holiday, 211 hours of work details and meetings, and 130 hours on the spring roadblock. The total of our man hours so far this year would cost $36,110 if paid at $10 per hour. The total value of property and contents involved in fire so far this year-is $532,100. The total amount lost to fire is $'218,700; which means we saved $313,400 in property by our firefighting efforts. We are proud to donate our time to you, we just ask for your assistance with a donation. With the arrival of fall, we ask you to use extreme caution with outdoor burning. Burning permits are required after October 15 and are available free from the Tennessee Forestry Division by calling 725-3281. Please check your smoke alarms monthly and change the batteries at least yearly. If you need help with replacement or installation of a smoke alarm, or cannot afford one, give us a call, leave a message, and we will be glad to help. Thanks for your support, 2011 |
